CONFIDENCE

THINK DIFFERENTLY.
LIVE EXTRAORDINARILY

For most of my life, I’ve been told that I’m ‘confident’.

For decades, people attributed this ‘confidence’ to my success:

“Oh you got that senior position because you’re so confident”

“You moved to Australia on your own because you’re confident”.

“You pass exams easily because you’re confident”.

“You transitioned from corporate to Entrepreneurship easily because you’re confident’

“You built a successful business really fast because you’re confident”

For all those individuals who have ever met me in person – you probably think that I oozed ‘confidence’.

But for me – this word is deeply misunderstood.

It wasn’t ‘confidence’ per se that created the success I’ve achieved in my work, career and business to date.

It was identity.

Self-image.

A belief deep in my psyche that ‘I’m the kind of person that things always work out for’.

This isn’t arrogance.

It isn’t bravado.

It isn’t hope.

It’s a knowing.

And it’s this ‘knowing’ that enables me to take risks, to invest heavily in my own growth, to move across the world with no plan whatsoever other than a ‘knowing’ that it would all work out.

The confidence that people see, comes from that ‘knowing’.

Does this mean I’ve been immune to comparison, to self-criticism, to telling myself I could be even further ahead by now… etc etc?

Does it mean I’ve led a charmed life skipping from one success to another?

Of course not.

I’ve had more than my fair share of failures, tragedies, bereavements, disastrous situationships, and a noisy roommate in my head that was definitely not my biggest cheerleader for many years.

But over all of those things, was a deep belief that ultimately, I’m the kind of person that things always work out for.

Here’s the thing though – and tell me if this is you – many people don’t feel that they have that ‘knowing’.

Many think they ‘know’ that success is hard for them – that they’re the kind of person who has to work really hard to achieve things.

It’s not true – it’s just a story you keep telling yourself.

Yes, you have a lot of historical evidence.

They were self-fulfilling prophecies.

So if you don’t have this ‘belief’ or this ‘knowing’ – how on earth do you cultivate it so that you can also become more of <insert whatever you want to become more of>?

It’s mind direction (hence my title – The Mind Director).

Since I was very young, I somehow mastered the art of directing my mind.

Thoughts like ‘But what if…..’ don’t get to even finish themselves in my head.

I redirect my mind to ‘Of course it’s going to go the way I want it to’.

And a belief is just a thought that you keep repeating.

Over time, hope becomes a belief, a belief becomes faith (not in the religious sense – I’m referring to a trust that things will work out).

And over time, the faith is proven with results – because we become what we think about.

And then the evidence mounts up.

And it becomes a knowing.

And a ‘knowing’ becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

So my success hasn’t been down to ‘confidence’ – the way it works is this:

Decide what you would love to believe.

Redirect your mind away from opposing thoughts.

Think what you want to think.

Keep directing your mind to that.

Soon, you start to believe it.

Then it becomes a knowing.

Then you take action, risk, invest in yourself, because you have this feeling that it will all work out your way.

Then it does.

The ‘knowing’ is confirmed.

The confidence  – which isn’t actually ‘confidence’ at all – it’s a belief – is strengthened.

Rinse and Repeat.

This is why my professional life has always seemed ‘effortless’, and continues to be so.

This is why I don’t try to ‘sell’ anything on a call with someone who is interested in working with me – there is a ‘knowing’ that if you work with me, I will change your life.  I don’t need to convince anyone of that – anyone who has been on a call with me or worked with me will know – there’s a conviction to my message.

I just know.

So my friend, if you are lacking in faith that things will work out for you, please know that you’re just strengthening that belief over and over again.

About 60,000 times a day.

Life can become so much more effortless if you can learn to master this skill.

Effortlessly knowing,

Guinevere
